REVISED FEDERAL ENERGY CODES
In May of 2024 a final decision from USDA & HUD was made to change federal energy codes in relation to homes or dwelling units that are marketed towards FHA financed first-time home buyers. The new ruling has gone into effect and is related to the Energy Independence and Security Act ( EISA ) which requires the USDA & HUD to set these minimum energy standards for those who meet the financing criteria.
The construction industry is having to quickly adapt to these new policies, but fortunately we have seen many production builders already building to above code standards. For those individuals who are ahead of the curve, this will likely not impact their current operations but they should still be paying close attention to the changes. There are several pathways available to production builders who need to comply with new regulations and different benefits associated with each option, including lucrative paybacks.
